For those seeking a modern contemporary look Hewn texture crosses all the boundaries of a “ period “ and can be mixed successfully with some Smooth texture ( say 30 % ) to provide contrast.
For a traditional colonial look all can be used and the texture blends can be mixed quite successfully. Using smooth cornerstones with Rockface on the body looks good and suits the period. The reverse also looks good, i.e. Rockface corners with smooth on the body. These two options look a little more formal than using the same texture all over. Sparrow Picked texture mixed with some Hewn and Smooth works well for a less formal colonial look.

For a French Provincial look Rockface texture, Sparrow Picked, Hewn and Smooth all mixed randomly works well. This also can look quite contemporary in the right environment too.
Extensive use of window mouldings, sills and keystones tends to provide a more formal Victorian look, particularly with Smooth cornerstones and foundations well. The opposite works too with RockFace corners and foundations with a Smooth body stone.
In most cases any mix of textures will always look good. It is important to define the look you are after, one which is going to compliment the style of your home. You must be comfortable that the feel of the finished product is going to fulfill the vision you have. Or more so, even better than the vision you had.
Probably the most difficult home to address is the standard 50’s and 60’s with little roof pitch and plain architectural features.
